Mr. Chen from Singapore, 65 years old, traveled with his parents (75 years old) and spouse for a family trip back to China. Before departure, he sent us a WeChat message: "We're in no rush, budget is not an issue—just one requirement: make sure my parents don't get tired. Ideally, they should be able to return to the hotel each afternoon for a rest." We arranged a relaxed 7-day itinerary for them. On the way back, Mr. Chen's father told the driver, "This trip was even more comfortable than our last European tour."

Parents' groups hate rushing; they need to return to the hotel every afternoon for a proper rest. Here's exactly how to schedule your 7 days.

7-Day Overview

Day 1: Airport pickup in Guiyang (soft landing); Day 2: Half-day tour of Qingyan Ancient Town; Day 3: Huangguoshu Waterfall; Day 4: Transfer from Anshun to Libo; Day 5: Xiaoqikong Scenic Area; Day 6: Xijiang Thousand Households Miao Village; Day 7: Morning view at the village + return to Guiyang for airport drop-off. Maximum single-drive time is 3.5 hours per day. Check-in by 3 PM daily, with no consecutive mountain crossings.

Day 1: Soft Landing in Guiyang

30-minute transfer from the airport to the hotel. No sightseeing on the first day to ensure seniors get a full night's rest. Enjoy a light, easy-to-digest dinner of Siwawa in the evening. We recommend staying in Huaguoyuan or Guanshanhu for quick elevators and spacious rooms.

MeituShuo Reminder: Guiyang's elevation is 1100 meters. Elderly visitors from coastal or plain areas may experience chest tightness and shortness of breath on the first day. Carry your blood pressure and heart medications with you; do not check them in.

Day 2: Qingyan Ancient Town, a favorite stop for seniors

Depart at 10 AM, arrive in Qingyan after 1 hours. This is one of Guizhou's rare "no-hiking" ancient towns: the main street is mostly flat with many tea houses. Enjoy Aunt Zhang's braised pork trotters with rose sugar for lunch—great for all ages. Return to Guiyang at 3 PM.

Ticket: $10 (combo ticket: $40, optional). A leisurely morning is enough.

Day 3: Huangguoshu – Senior-Friendly Itinerary

Depart at 7:30; arrive at the scenic area in 2.5 hours. For our senior group, we'll take the "return route": first ride the shuttle bus to the Grand Waterfall, then view the outside of the Water Curtain Cave (without entering the slippery section), followed by the first half of Tianxing Bridge before exiting the park. Enjoy a light lunch inside the scenic area, then return to Anshun for the afternoon.

Ticket: 328 CNY. Children under 70 enter free. For the steep section, we recommend renting a hiking pole for 15 CNY at the entrance.

MeituShuo ReminderThe shuttle bus at Huangguoshu Park is a must—walking the entire route covers nearly 10 km, which is too much for seniors. The park shuttle is also free for guests aged 70 and above; be sure to register for your free ticket in advance when booking to avoid queuing on-site.

Day 4: Anshun to Libo, half-day rest

Arrive Libo County in 3 hours. Skip the scenic area this afternoon; seniors rest at the hotel, then enjoy bayberry soup and beef noodles in the evening.

Day 5: Xiaoqikong – See It All by Bus

We entered through the East Gate with our parents, took an electric cart directly to the farthest spot at Mandarine Lake, then walked back station by station. The 68-tier waterfall and Wolong Dragon Pool offer the most beautiful and gentle paths. Seniors can walk for about 15 minutes if they wish, or simply hop on the electric cart to the next stop.

Tickets: 110 yuan. Electric carts: 40 yuan (mandatory). The scenic area spans over 20 kilometers from north to south; walking is not feasible.

Day 6: Xijiang Thousand-Household Miao Village

Lijia to Xijiang takes 3.5 hours. We'll stay in a homestay within the village; luggage will be delivered by electric carts, so you won't have to drag suitcases on stone paths. Enjoy panoramic night views from the second-floor balcony—more comfortable than crowded observation decks. Dinner features a long-table banquet; if sour soup isn't your preference, the kitchen can prepare tomato soup instead.

Ticket 90 includes shuttle service; free admission for ages 1 and above.

Day 7: Morning in the Miao Village and Return Journey

Let seniors sleep in naturally. Head to the observation deck at 9 to watch the morning mist and smoke rising from homes—quieter than the night view. After lunch, return to Guiyang; it's just a 3-hour drive to the airport for your afternoon flight.

Parents' Group: Private Charter Is Non-Negotiable

Public transit isn't ideal for seniors—lugging luggage, transferring stations, and finding restrooms can be tough. Our family group travels exclusively in 7-seater luxury vans. Off-season rates start at 800 per day; summer rates range from 900 to 1000 per day, including driver, fuel, and tolls. Our drivers have extensive experience with senior groups and know exactly when to slow down and where to make extra restroom stops.

MeituShuo ReminderPack common medications for parents: blood pressure, diabetes, gastrointestinal, and essential oils. Pharmacy distribution in Guizhou's mountainous areas is uneven; searching for medicines on-site causes delays.

Final thoughts

The most valuable part of taking your parents along isn't how many attractions you visit—it's when they smile on the way home and say, "Let's come back next time." This itinerary offers as much to see as a 5-day trip, but with built-in rest periods each day so seniors stay comfortable and children can relax.
