Last month, Mr. Wong and his family of four flew back to Singapore from Guiyang. Before departure, his most frequent question was: "Is 5 days enough? Won't it be too rushed?" His parents are in their 80s and have mobility issues, so he was worried they wouldn't be able to keep up. On the day of their return, at the airport, Mr. Wong shook hands with our driver, Lao Yang, saying, "Your arrangements were incredibly comfortable. We'll bring friends next time."

Meitu Tour has been providing local ground services in Guizhou for 10 years, with half of our guests being overseas Chinese. The most common question we get is: "I'm visiting Guizhou for the first time—how should I plan a 5-day itinerary?" Today, we'll walk you through our most polished classic 5-day route in full detail: daily departure times, accommodations, dining recommendations, and whether private car transfers are needed. Friends returning from Singapore, Malaysia, or the U.S. to visit family can use this guide as-is.

5-Day Overview

  • Day 1: Arrive in Guiyang → Qingyan Ancient Town → Stay in Guiyang

  • Day 2: Guiyang → Kaili → Xijiang Miao Village (Stay on the hillside)

  • Day 3: Xijiang → Zhenyuan Ancient Town (Stay by Wuyang River)

  • Day 4: Zhenyuan → Libo (Stay at the scenic area entrance)

  • Day 5: Half-day at Xiaoqikong → Guiyang → Airport Transfer

Simply put, it's a loop route: Guiyang → Miao Village → Ancient Town → Karst. The entire journey is approximately 1100 kilometers by private car with no backtracking.

Day 1: Arrive and Start Strong

Longdongbao Airport is 20 minutes from the city center. International flights typically arrive around noon; head straight to Qingyan Ancient Town upon landing (drive time: 40 minutes). The best lighting for photos is between 2 and 4 PM, when the Ming and Qing Dynasty city walls look especially photogenic. Inside the ancient town...Aunt Zhang's Braised Pork TrottersA family-run shop passed down through generations, serving tender, gelatinous pork that pairs perfectly with rice noodles and glutinous rice porridge for a complete meal. Afterward, head back to Guiyang's city center in the evening to enjoy siwawa and changwang noodles as a late-night snack at Erqi Road Snack Street.

MeituShuo ReminderQingyan entrance fee: 10 CNY. The South Gate is crowded with heavy traffic; enter via the West Gate for a smoother experience. Allow 2 hours to walk through the entire ancient town—don't linger, save your energy for the Miao village ahead.

Day 2: Head straight to Xijiang, stay at the mountain top.

Depart at 8 AM; it takes 2.5 hours to drive from Guiyang to Xijiang Miao Village. At noon, we'll stop in Kaili first.LianghuanzhaiSour Soup Fish — a local favorite you only visit when invited. Made with red sour broth and rice-field fish, it's twice as authentic as anything at the Xijiang scenic area. Arrive in Xijiang by 2 PM, drop your luggage at the mountain homestay.

Highly recommended to stay near Observation Deck No. 1 in the scenic area.No need to squeeze onto shuttle buses to see the night view. At 0:00 PM, Lu Sheng Square hosts a welcoming dance; at 7:30 PM, enjoy the Story Theater. But the highlight is when all village lights turn on at 8 PM—viewing the entire Miao village from Observation Deck No. 1 looks like a galaxy falling into the mountains. That single glance is why you flew so far to Guizhou.

MeituShuo ReminderXijiang Ticket 90 + Shuttle Bus 20. Inside the village, those"Performance restaurant" prices are inflated.Let's go eat.HoujiazhuangorAnong Miao CuisineIt's fine, averaging 60-80 per person.

Day 3: Xijiang to Zhenyuan – Half day by car, half day exploring

No early rise needed. Check out at 10, arrive in Zhenyuan in 2.5 hours. This is our top pick for a Guizhou ancient town: less commercialized than Fenghuang, with the Wuyang River winding through the city in an S-shape. Start your afternoon by climbing...Shiping Mountain(Entry fee: 30; 30-minute hike to the summit. The view of the town from the mountain is 10 times better than from the bridge. In the evening, stroll along the river, enjoy Auntie Chen's sour soup, and stay at a riverside inn with a window overlooking the water.)

Day 4: Zhenyuan to Libo — Long but worth it

This is the longest leg of the journey: Zhenyuan to Libo Xiaoqikong, approximately 6 hours (350 km).We strongly recommend booking a private car for this day.High-speed rail requires a transfer to Duyun followed by a bus. While 2 transfers take roughly the same time, a private car is far more comfortable and avoids hassle for seniors and children.

Arrive at Libo at 4 PM and stay near the West Gate of the scenic area.Chaoyang TownConvenient for park entry the next day. Dinner tonightLibo Flavor HouseSour soup beef and potato cakes.

Day 5: Half-day at Xiaoqikong, then head to the airport.

Xiaoqikong opens at 8 AM.Suggest entering through the East Gate promptly at 8.The scenic area allows one-way traffic only; enter via the East Gate and exit via the West Gate for the smoothest route. Visit 7 core attractions: Xiaoqikong Bridge, 68-tier waterfall, Wolongtan, Yuanyang Lake, Water Forest, Cuigu Waterfall, and Tonggu Bridge. Allow 3 hours for shuttle bus and walking. Exit the park by 12 PM, take 3.5 hours to return to Guiyang, and arrive at the airport between 4 and 5 PM in time for your evening flight.

MeituShuo Reminder: Xixiaokong entrance tickets are now mandatory1 days in advanceReserve in the "Leyou Libo" mini-program; entry is not allowed during peak season without a reservation. Overseas guests without WeChat Pay, please inform us in advance so we can book it for you.

Charter a car or drive yourself?

5-day loopCar rental highly recommendedWe offer 5-seat business vans for families of 2-4 people at 700-800 CNY/day during peak season, and 7-seat SUVs at 900-1000 CNY/day. Rates include a driver, fuel, and tolls—no shopping stops or forced store visits. It's more cost-effective than renting a car, taking high-speed rail, and using ride-hailing services. Plus, it's hassle-free: ideal for traveling with elderly family members and children, with luggage staying in the vehicle so everyone can rest as soon as you board.

If it's just 2-3 young travelers on a tight budget, you can also choose high-speed rail + local private car in Xijiang/Libo. We can split this up for you.

Final thoughts

Every route is personally tested, refined through dozens of iterations, and far from copy-pasted online guides. We've seen a steady rise in overseas Chinese travelers over the years, with most guests returning to visit family in Singapore, Malaysia, or the U.S., often bringing friends along.
