Mr. Chen from Singapore returned with his wife, two children, and parents—six in total. His first question: "The elderly are 70 years old, the kids are 8 and 11. Can we cover both Guizhou and Yunnan in 12 days without feeling rushed?" We designed this itinerary for him. Before returning to Singapore, his father said, "This trip was more comfortable than expected—we didn't feel tired."

The 12-day itinerary adds 4 days compared to the 8-day version, making it perfect for including Shangri-La. Explore Guizhou's landscapes and Miao villages, then travel from Dali to Shangri-La in Yunnan. The elevation increases gradually, ensuring a comfortable pace for seniors and children alike.

12-Day Overview

Day 1: Airport pickup in Guiyang; Day 2: Huangguoshu Waterfall; Day 3: Libo Xiaoqikong; Day 4: Xijiang Miao Village; Day 5: High-speed train to Kunming; Day 6: Arrive in Dali; Day 7-8: Xizhou & Erhai Lake, Dali; Day 8 (PM): Arrive at Shuhe, Lijiang; Day 9: Jade Dragon Snow Mountain; Day00 1: Travel to Shangri-La; Day02: Puda Cuo Scenic Area; Day08: Airport drop-off. Private car service for the Guizhou segment; our partner local fleet with 8 years of experience handles the Yunnan leg via high-speed rail connections.

Day 4 – Guizhou Segment

Day 1: Pick up at Guiyang airport; enjoy Lianghuanzhai Sour Soup Fish. Day 2: Huangguoshu Waterfall — tickets are 328 CNY (includes shuttle bus). Visitors over 70 years old only need to purchase 50 CNY insurance. Explore the lower section of Tianxing Bridge; water curtain cave queue starts at 40 minutes. Day 3: Libo Xiaoqikong — tickets 110 + electric cart 40 CNY. Enter from East Gate, exit via West Gate (entire route is downhill). Stay in Libo and try Aunt Zhang's Braised Pig Trotters. Day 4: Xijiang Miao Village — tickets 90 CNY. Overnight in a half-mountain stilt house with night views.

MeituShuo ReminderHuangguoshu and Xiaoqikong require real-name reservations one day in advance; same-day bookings are unavailable. We will arrange reservations for all guests. For elderly visitors, enter via the East Gate and exit via the West Gate. The reverse route involves a continuous uphill climb that can strain knees.

Pro tip: The Xijiang Viewing Platform is packed after the lights turn on at 8. Arrive by 7 PM to catch the blue hour, then walk down to the mid-mountain viewing platform afterward—much fewer crowds.

Day 5: High-Speed Rail Connection

Day 5: No sightseeing planned. Take the train from Kaili South to Guiyang North (50 minutes), then transfer at the same station to Kunming South (2 hour 25 minutes). Arrive at the hotel by 4 PM. In the evening, head to Duan Shi Jie Jian Xin Yuan for Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles. When traveling with seniors, allow at least 1 hours and 40 minutes between transfers. High-speed rail tickets go on sale 15 days before departure at 8 AM; book early as securing seats together for a group of 6 requires quick action.

Day 8 - Dali: A Slow-Paced Journey

Day 6: Take the Kunming-Dali high-speed train (arrives in 2 hours). Meet with a Bai driver at Xizhou. Stay in a traditional Bai courtyard by Erhai Lake. Afternoon cycling at Haitang Park; sunset viewing at Caicun Village in the evening. Day 7: Explore Xizhou and enjoy Xidoufen (mashed soybeans). Afternoon visit to Zhoucheng for tie-dye workshops, where kids can try making their own. Day 8: Take the high-speed train to Lijiang in the morning (1 hours and 50 minutes). Stay in Shuhe, a quieter alternative to Dayan Old Town.

Heads up: Dining and lodging in Shuanglang are pricey; not ideal for families. Xizhou and Cai Village offer much better value at their homestays.

Day 9: 10 — Lijiang to Shangri-La

Day 9 AM: Visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, exploring only Blue Moon Valley and Yak Pasture (no Glacier Park cable car). The cable car at 4506 meters is not recommended for seniors or children; Blue Moon Valley offers even better views. Day 10: Private tour on the Dian-Zang Route. Drive 4 hours to Shangri-La with a 1-hour stop at Tiger Leaping Gorge. Altitude rises from 2400 to 3300 meters. Take Rhodiola in advance and avoid bathing or strenuous activity on the first day.

MeituShuo ReminderIn the Shangri-La section, we've arranged for a local Tibetan driver with whom we've collaborated for many years. Vehicles and accommodations will meet Meitu Shuo's standards, with full customer service support throughout your journey. For seniors, oxygen bottles are available at the hotel on the first night in case of headaches—please don't push through discomfort.

Day 1-12: Pudacuo & Return

Day 11: Pudacuo National Park. Entry ticket plus shuttle bus: 138 CNY. Walk the 属都湖 boardwalk for 3.3 km of flat, easy terrain; squirrels and yaks are often spotted. In the afternoon, stroll around Songzanlin Temple; climbing the steps is optional. Day 12: Transfer to Shangri-La Airport, fly via Kunming back to Singapore.

Charter fee

Guizhou segment: 4 days, 7 business vans at 800 yuan/day. Yunnan segment: 7 days at 700 yuan/day. Total vehicle cost is approximately 8100 yuan (includes fuel and tolls). 12-day package: 7000 yuan per person (includes vehicle, accommodation, tickets, and breakfast).

Final thoughts

12 days in Guizhou and Yunnan, with one extra day compared to 8 days. This itinerary includes Shangri-La and a relaxed pace, perfect for three generations traveling together. Seniors won't feel rushed, kids have plenty to do, and adults stay comfortable.
