Guizhou + Chongqing 7-Day Combo Tour: High-speed rail reaches both cities in just 2 hours—here's how to plan your itinerary.
Last month, Mr. Chen from Singapore reached out to plan a 5-day trip for his parents and child covering Guizhou and Chongqing. He wants an itinerary that isn't too rushed, ensuring they see the highlights of both provinces. His main concern is how to seamlessly travel between the two regions and whether it will be manageable for seniors and young children.
We run this tour every year. Guizhou and Chongqing are a natural fit to combine. The high-speed train from Guiyang to Chongqing takes just 1 hours 57 minutes, with second-class seats at 167, making it more convenient than flying.

Day 6: One-Day Dazu Rock Carvings Tour → Stay in Chongqing
Day 7: Chongqing station drop-off or free time
Guizhou section: 3 days to see the waterfall and ancient town. Chongqing section: 4 days to experience mountain city culture and a World Heritage site. The high-speed train connects them in one stop.
Guizhou Section: Focus on Key Points in 3 Days
Day 1: Start at Qingyan Ancient Town. Tickets cost 10 yuan (the combo pass for 60 includes minor attractions; the single ticket is sufficient). For lunch, try Zhao's Braised Pork Trotters at 28 yuan per serving—soft and flavorful enough for kids to chew. In the afternoon, visit Jiaxiu Pavilion. Dinner options are available at Erqi Road Snack Street in the evening.
Day 2: Huangguoshu is the highlight. Depart at 7 AM for a 2-hour drive. Visit Doupotang first, then the lower section of Tianxingqiao, followed by the main waterfall and Water Curtain Cave. The ticket price is 160 (includes shuttle bus). During peak season, wait times for Water Curtain Cave start at 40 minutes.
MeituShuo ReminderHuangguoshu: We recommend bringing your own disposable raincoat. Raincoats sold at the scenic area for 15 yuan per piece are of very poor quality. Due to heavy mist from the waterfall, please use a waterproof case for your phone.
Day 3: Take the high-speed train from Guiyang North to Chongqing. Second-class seat: 167 yuan; travel time: 1 hours 57 minutes. In the afternoon, visit Jiefangbei. At night, enjoy the night view at Hongyadong (free admission). Expect large crowds on weekends—visit after 8 p.m.

Chongqing Section: Take 4 days to stroll
Day 4: Wulong Karst & Three Natural Bridges – filming location for Transformers. Train from Chongqing to Wulong takes about 2 hours. Entrance ticket with shuttle bus: 95. Longshuixia Fissure entrance fee: 85. Visit both sites in 5–6 hours; elevators and cable cars available to save energy.
MeituShuo ReminderWulong Mountain is about 10°C cooler than downtown Chongqing. Bring a light jacket even in 9. Tianfu Guanyi is a later-built replica ancient structure; spend little time there and focus on the natural stone bridge.
Day 5: After returning from Wulong to Chongqing, visit Ciqikou Ancient Town. Entry is free; while the main street is commercialized, side alleys offer authentic tea houses and craft workshops. For dinner, head to Pipayuan Hotpot near Nanshan. Average cost: 80–100, offering better value than the trendy spots around Jiefangbei.
Avoid These PitfallsChen Mahua is sold all over Ciqikou. For the authentic老店, head deep into the alley—the one with the longest queue is the real deal. Don't buy on the main street.
Avoid These PitfallsChongqing is a multi-level mountain city. A navigation estimate of 500 meters may involve a 30-minute uphill climb. Wear flat shoes and don't rely on map distances when traveling with seniors.
Day 6: Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take the high-speed train to Dazu South Station (~40 minutes), then a taxi (20 minutes). Tickets cost 115 CNY and include Baoding Mountain and Beishan Mountain. Baoding Mountain is the highlight; reserve 3 hours there. Skip Beishan if time is tight.
Day 7: Check flight schedules. In the morning, visit Eling Second Factory Cultural and Creative Park or Liziba Station to see the monorail pass through a building—both are free.

Charter a car or take the high-speed train?
The high-speed rail option is the most cost-effective. In Guiyang, private car charter for a day costs approximately 400 to 500 CNY. For the Chongqing segment, use ride-hailing services. Wulong private car charter is about 500 CNY per day, and Dazhu can be reached via round-trip high-speed rail.
For families with seniors and children who prefer not to transfer, you can book a private car for the entire journey. A 7-seat business van for 7 days typically costs between 5000 and 6000, including fuel and tolls but excluding accommodation and entrance fees—much more convenient.
